Update: Rini is no more with us.
It is with our deepest regret, we want to update our readers that Rini is no more. She has succumbed to the injuries of her accident after the brave fight. She breathed her last after suffering a heart attack at 3 pm in the afternoon yesterday. We hope she rests in peace. Our thoughts are with the family and with all of the wonderful people who fought tirelessly along with her all these days.
Many frightening things keep happening around the world everyday. And we all stop a moment to sympathize, and move on. But things are different when it is personal. When things happen to your family and your loved ones, you don’t stop till you have exhausted every channel, and knocked every door. And that is what I am doing here. I am fighting for Rini!
My friend’s 15-year-old niece, Rini, met with a terrible accident on Dec 15th. A truck rammed her hatchback on NH34.
While the other passengers were injured, Rini suffered the most. Since that fateful day, her family has tried four different hospitals for her treatment. Finally, they found hope in Apollo Gleneagles Hospital in Kolkata. Rini is under treatment (50 days till publication) there.
The Arduous Treatment
The little girl of 15, Rini, has undergone multiple surgeries as her face, legs and head were severely damaged. She is in ventilation due to persisting swelling of the brain and is experiencing all the painful procedures you can probably think of. Her father, a humble assistant in a firm, has exhausted all he had in the effort to save his daughter’s life. He was ready to give up hope on his precious child’s life, when a miracle happened.
Spring of Hope
My friend, an engineer by profession, found strength to support his kin during these troubled times. He not only sponsored every bit he could, he also spearheaded a Milaap movement to crowd-fund a chance for Rini to get the treatment that she needed. A few others close to him came forward and joined him in his efforts. The immediate circle got together and harnessed the power of the social media. More than 5000 people joined the FB page, Fight for Rini, and the funds slowly started coming in. Rini’s school, her neighbors, came forward. Her story and the efforts of the community hit the local news as well. The tireless work has yielded a life-saving INR 9.36 Lakhs till date. In dark and uncertain times, when the political vibes make you question the meaning of humanity, it is stories like these that help us restore sanity. For every time we choose to fight for a Rini, we uphold what is the purest about human life – empathy!
The Last Stretch
Rini still continues to be critical and the family is still short of the financial demands of the treatment. The Milaap project for Rini aims to collect at least INR 15 lakhs to support the struggling and brave family.
This is not an article. This is not news. This is not a spam or propaganda. This is personal. I hope every reader of Blank Slate Chronicles receives our plea and steps forward, with any little bit that they can do to support. We also request your help to share the message and give Rini a fighting chance!
Blank Slate also wishes Rini the strongest of the Universe’s vibes to overcome this hardship. We thank our readers in advance for their kindness and solidarity!
